President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that he would sign a decree on the transfer of presidential powers to the Security Council in the event of the physical removal of the head of state. Lukashenko made the announcement during a visit to the Polesie State Radiation and Ecological Reserve in the Narovlya region on Saturday

"Tell me, if there is no president tomorrow, do you guarantee that everything will be okay? No. Therefore, in this case, I will sign a decree in the coming days on how the government will be built in Belarus. The President was shot - tomorrow the Security Council will be empowered. It is necessary to introduce a state of emergency immediately, up to a military one, if someone moves at the border. And the Security Council must make a decision," said the Belarusian leader.

Lukashenko specified that in this case, the chairmanship in the Security Council will pass to the Prime Minister, and all decisions will be made by secret ballot.

The Belarus President also stressed that he does not want "to hand over or transfer something to someone."

"Guys, this will never happen. I am ready for anything just to save my country and your country," he concluded.

On March 15, Lukashenko reportedly expanded the composition of the permanent members of the Belarus Security Council.

On April 17, Lukashenko announced that an alleged plot to assassinate him and his family in order to carry out a coup d'etat had been neutralised. He also alleged that the US was involved in the plot.

The US State Department has completely denied the allegations of involvement.

SOT, Alexander Lukashenko, President of Belarus (Russian): “My decision will relate exclusively to internal issues and will answer the question: 'What if they succeed in assassinating the President?" Tell me, if there is no President tomorrow, do you guarantee that everything will be okay? No. Therefore, in this case, I will sign a decree in the coming days on how the government will be built in Belarus. If the President is shot - tomorrow the Security Council will be empowered. It is necessary to introduce a state of emergency immediately, up to a military one, if someone moves at the border. And the Security Council must make a decision. This general should know that if I am not there, what will happen to me, my family, Belarus. Everyone should know. I must answer this question. I said that I would sign this decree and determine who will rule the country, suddenly. We will actually have a collective president in the form of the Security Council. Yes, there will be a chairman. When there is no president, he will act as prime minister. He will be the chairmanship. but all decisions will be made by secret ballot so that there is no pressure. The Security Council will decide when the presidential elections are scheduled, whether or not to introduce a state of emergency, how to act, and so on. Here are the civil and military in the Security Council will decide. I am highlighting this idea for you. It shouldn't be a secret. This is a decision I made a long time ago when all this was unfolding. And not that I want to hand over something to someone or betray (anything)- guys, this will never happen. I am ready to do anything to save my country and your country."
